Reading Recovery®

Reading Recovery is national program for first graders having difficulty with reading at grade level.

Individual students receive a half-hour lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher.

As soon as students can meet grade-level expectations and demonstrate that they can continue to work independently in the classroom, their lessons are discontinued, and new students begin individual instruction.

With so many non-native English speakers at ICS, Reading Recovery is a valuable addition to first grade classroom instruction.

To volunteer for this program, please email us at volunteer@icsgeorgia.org.

More than two-thirds of students who successfully complete the Reading Recovery program not only do well on standardized tests, they also maintain their gains in later schooling.

Reading Recovery is an early intervention program for students who are not catching on to the complex set of concepts that make reading and writing possible.

This internationally successful program helps 75% of students to read and write at grade level within three to five months.
